Sourcing standards

Every specification on this site traces to a named, linked source: a manufacturer product page, an owner's manual, or a named retailer listing that publishes the maker's own figures. The source is listed at the foot of every page that uses it.

Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, the spec table prints “Not published”. It is never estimated, never inferred from a photograph, and never carried over from a competitor's article. A blank costs the product points on the transparency axis of the scoring rubric, which is the correct incentive.

We do not test, and we say so

No product on this site has been handled, fitted or used by us. There is no lab, no test bench, no owned units and no test fleet. That is stated on the about page, on the methodology page, on every hub, and above the first affiliate link on every commercial page.

We will never write “in our testing”, “we tried”, “our unit”, or any variant. We will never claim a credential the author does not hold or a tenure he does not have. The full list is here, and breaking any item on it would be a firing offense rather than an editing note.

No self-authored review ratings in structured data

Pages here show a score out of ten. That score is arithmetic over published specifications, and it is ordinary page content.

It is deliberately not marked up as review structured data. A Review or AggregateRating node asserts that a reviewer used the product and rated it. We did not, so emitting one would be a false claim about how the number was produced. The structured data on ranked pages is an ItemList of names and anchors, which is the honest description of an editorial ranking.

How picks are chosen

One rubric, in one file, applied to every ranked page: heat headroom, install effort, price against a $150 ceiling, warranty length, and how much the maker publishes. The weights are fixed, an axis with no published input is dropped and the rest re-normalized, and the full working for every axis is printed on every product.

Every ranked page also names at least one product to skip, in that product's own entry, with a reason specific to the question the page is asking. A roundup where every pick wins is an advertisement.

Prices

• A price shown inside a buy button comes from a daily automated refresh and nowhere else.
• A price older than 48 hours disappears and the button reads “Check price”.
• A list price shown in a product entry is what the maker listed on a stated date, always printed with its source and that date, and never presented as what you will pay.
• No price is ever recalled, estimated or rounded from memory.

Refresh cadence

• Prices: daily, automated.
• Specifications: compiled September 4, 2026 and re-checked when a page is substantively updated, when a reader reports a change, or when a maker revises a product page we link to.
• Rankings: re-run whenever a specification or a list price in the ledger changes, because the score is computed from the data rather than typed in.
• Dates: every page shows its own published and last-updated dates, and those dates are real. The sitemap uses the same values rather than the build timestamp.

Corrections

A wrong specification is the worst thing that can happen here, because the entire argument of the site is that the numbers are checkable. So:

• Corrections take priority over new content.
• Corrections are dated and visible on the page. Not a silent edit.
• If a correction changes a ranking, the ranking changes and the page says that it did and why.
• Discontinued products stay and are labeled discontinued. Quietly deleting them would hide that we recommended something that no longer exists — the standing example is here.

On AI-assisted writing

Research, drafting and the arithmetic on this site are done with software assistance, and every published figure is checked against the linked source before it goes live. Nothing here is published on the basis of a model's recollection — that is precisely what the no-fabrication rule exists to prevent, and it is why every number on the site has a source link sitting next to it.

Editorial scope, and what we stay out of

• No medical claims. The comfort section describes product geometry and materials and quotes what manufacturers say about their own products. It does not diagnose, treat or advise, and it says so on every page in that section.
• No legal advice. Where a page mentions state rules — windshield mounting, for instance — it says to check your own state rather than telling you what the law is.
• No modifications or performance parts. Everything here is bolt-on, reversible and fits a car you already own.

Commercial relationships

This site earns affiliate commission and nothing else: no sponsored placements, no paid rankings, no free products, no display advertising. Commission does not affect the order of picks, and the structural evidence for that is on the disclosure page rather than in a promise.
