The warranty split is the specification
Almost every product in this category is sold as “waterproof” with no qualification and no term. That claim is doing a lot of work, because waterproofing on fabric is a coating or a laminate, and coatings degrade — through washing, through abrasion, through UV, and through claws.

Why non-quilted matters more than it sounds
This is the detail that separates a cover that stays waterproof from one that does not, and it is close to invisible on a product photo.
Quilting means stitching through the layers to hold them together, and every stitch is a needle hole through the waterproof laminate. A quilted “waterproof” seat bottom is a waterproof membrane with several thousand holes in it. Water finds them slowly, then all at once.
4Knines specifies a non-quilted waterproof laminate on the seat bottom for exactly this reason, with the triple stitching confined to the main structural seams. It is the kind of design decision that costs money and does not photograph.
Anchoring, and the cars where it fails
Every cover here anchors to the headrests, with additional straps or anchors tucking into the seat crease. That means two failure cases.
- Fixed headrests. If your rear headrests are integrated into the seat back and do not lift, there is nowhere for the top straps to go
- Seat belt access. A hammock covers the rear bench, and the rear seat belts come from under or behind it. Covers include belt openings; check they line up with your car before assuming
The related question is what a cover does to the middle seat position. In hammock mode the rear footwells are blocked, so it is a dog car until you unclip the front edge. Both covers here convert between hammock and flat bench without tools, which is the feature that makes this liveable.

Hair is a different problem from liquid
People buy these for mess and then discover that mess splits into two categories with different solutions.
Liquid — mud, rain, drool, accidents — is what waterproofing addresses, and a good cover handles it completely. Hair is not stopped by waterproofing at all. It works into any woven fabric, and a fabric cover simply moves the hair from your upholstery onto something you can take out, which is genuinely the point.
The removal method that works is not a vacuum. Dog hair woven into fabric resists suction; what lifts it is a rubber brush or a damp rubber glove dragged across the surface, which balls the hair up so it can then be picked or vacuumed off. If your dog travels in the back of an SUV
Everything above assumes a bench seat. A dog riding in the cargo area of an SUV or wagon is a different problem with a better solution: a molded cargo liner with a raised lip, which contains liquid rather than absorbing it and wipes clean rather than needing washing.

Does a dog hammock keep my dog safe in a crash?
No. It stops a dog sliding into the footwell in normal driving. It is not a restraint and it is not crash-tested. A crash-tested harness or a secured crate is a different product entirely.
Will a cover fit a car with fixed rear headrests?
