The short answer
Buy the Sojoy 12V heated cushion — mainly because it publishes the numbers the category otherwise hides. A stated maximum draw of 2.6 A (about 31W), a surface temperature ceiling of 50 C, and a timed shut-off at 30-45 minutes. Those three figures are what tell you it will not overload the socket, will not run away with the temperature, and cannot flatten a battery if you forget it. Do not buy any contact heater if you have reduced sensation where you would sit on it.

The current draw is the specification that matters first
Almost everything else on this site draws a trivial amount of power. A seat heater does not. It is a resistive element whose entire function is turning electricity into heat, and it is one of the few accessories that can genuinely trouble a 12V socket.
Sojoy publishes 2.6 A maximum at 12 volts, which is roughly 31 watts. A typical 12V socket circuit is fused at 10 to 15 A, so a single cushion is comfortable. Two cushions plus a phone charger plus a tire inflator on the same circuit is a different conversation, and the failure mode is a blown fuse rather than anything dramatic.

The timer is a safety feature, not a convenience
Every credible unit in this category shuts itself off after a set period — commonly 30, 45 or 90 minutes depending on the model. This exists for two reasons and both matter.
The first is battery protection. If your 12V socket stays live with the ignition off — and plenty do, as we set out in does a car charger drain your battery — then a heater left switched on is a 2.6 A load running until something stops it. At that rate a healthy battery is in trouble within a day.
The second is thermal. A timer bounds how long the element can run in one session regardless of what the thermostat is doing, which is a second, independent layer of protection.
Surface temperature, and why 50 C is the right kind of number
A published temperature ceiling is unusual in this category and it is the most reassuring thing on the spec sheet. It says the maker has thought about an upper bound and committed to one in writing.
50 C is warm — well above body temperature and hot enough to be uncomfortable on bare skin over time — but it is not a burn temperature for brief contact through clothing. The thermostat holds that rather than climbing, which is the behavior you want: the element should stop heating when it reaches a target, not simply run until you switch it off.
Products with no published ceiling are not necessarily worse. They are unverifiable, which on a device that gets hot against your body is a meaningful difference.
Fitting, and the airbag question
A cushion sits on the seat and straps around it, which is a different proposition from a full seat cover. It does not wrap the outer bolster, so it does not interact with the side airbag seam the way a cover does — that question, and the tested-stitching answer, belongs to best car seat covers.
What does need attention is the cable. A 12V cord running from the cushion to the socket crosses the cabin, and the wrong route puts it under the seat rails, around the belt buckle, or in the footwell where feet catch it. Route it along the side of the seat and secure the slack.

Two alternatives cost nothing and get overlooked. Most cars will heat the cabin faster if you drive gently for the first few minutes rather than idling on the driveway — the engine warms under load, and modern engines warm slowly at idle.

Will a heated seat cushion drain my car battery?
Not while the engine is running — the alternator covers 2.6 A comfortably. With the engine off on a permanently live socket, yes, it is a real load. The timed shut-off is what protects you, which is why a unit that publishes one is worth preferring.
Can I use two cushions at once?
Electrically yes, if they are on separate sockets or the circuit has headroom — two at 2.6 A each is about 62W. Check the fuse rating for your sockets, and be aware that some cars share one fuse across several.
Is a heated cushion safe to sit on for a long drive?
